Peering through the store window shop you can see a selection of tastefully appealling rugs. Dirk Golisch on his business: “Instead of show- ing standard products of any kind, I’m doing something different that you won’t see just any- where.” High-quality knotted and woven rugs line the walls and are presented on various pedestals, sample stands and hanging displays. The firm also offers carpeting with carpet laying service alongside area rug sales.
Expecting only modest foot traffic to the store given its location in a rather quiet side street near the Botanical Garden, Golisch went with a digital shop window in parallel from the start: “The hybrid concept turned out to be a great way to go for us, as our online and offline sales have always complemented each other ideally. Customers browse the web, then come into the store for advice. And most of the time they end up buying something. Getting to touch the prod- uct, maybe take a carpet home and let it lie on the floor a few days to try it out ... customers appreciate that, especially with higher-priced pieces.”
The idea for the marketplace teppichliebe.com stemmed from a desire to provide his industry colleagues in the “carpet family” an exclusive group platform for presenting and selling their products. “To my knowledge there is no com- parable platform in German-speaking Europe where customers can shop with a complete focus on carpets only.” As Golisch emphasises, all product information is compiled in-house, where they write informative editorial copy tai- lored for Search Engine Optimisation.
Competent advice is the key to success for Gol- isch’s varied ventures; as general manager he effectively juggles the myriad business tasks in- volved with zeal while keeping an eye out for potential new projects of interest.
The product array spans the mid- range to premium price segments.
