COMPANY HISTORY
A deep-rooted family firm: 1947 - 2022
1920 In the wake of the First World War, Aenne and Wilhelm Kolckmann open a carpet store.
1948 Their son Claus joins the company, working initially worked as a travelling salesman. It was in this period that he developed the idea of anti-slip underlays for carpets and runners.
1952 A. Kolckmann OHG is founded
1960 Claus Kolckmann has an initial anti-slip
carpet underlay produced, made as a somewhat stiff latex-based grid.
1963 Claus launches AKO Elastic 4.5 on the market, the first full-surface carpet underlay, which continues to sell well today. Over the years the product range evolves to focus exclusively on anti-slip and safety mats.
1988 Claus Kolckmann builds up a weaving mill with ten looms. The backing fabric for the company’s products is still manufactured there today.
1999 Claus’ nephew Cornelius Sorg takes over management, followed by his daughter Johanna Kolckmann in 2008.
2022 The company celebrates its 75th birthday, currently with 50 employees.
