As a tradition-steeped company located in the Lüneburg Heath region, Heitmann Felle views its natural products as an alternative to the fast-moving trends in the fashion world – and to materials and manufacturing processes that are harmful to the environment. The company stays abreast of the latest market requirements while ensuring sustainable, transparent production.
As managing director Nadine Heitmann says: “We have been around for over 200 years as a family firm founded all the way back in 1820 – which makes us quite a rarity in our modern age. We feel great responsibility towards our customers, thus we insist on unchanging quality that meets the most sophisticated expectations. This means in part being ready at all time to engage in dialogue. The members of my family and our staff are deeply committed to uphold- ing these principles. Sheepskins are long-lasting natural products; it goes without saying that we
use no harmful substances in tanning. We un- dergo regular production auditing so customers know they can rely on this promise.”
Our tannery for premium lambskins is a Leath- er Working Group member, holding LWG gold certification. The LWG is a global non-profit organisation active in ecological sustainability and compliance with environmental standards in the value creation chain for leather products, thus including sheepskins. The LWG audits tan- neries for compliance in areas including water and energy consumption, waste management, air and noise pollution and chemicals manage- ment. Retailers and suppliers too have to fully document movements of the products.
Fur wholesaler Heitmann keeps a wide selec- tion of sheepskins and cattle skins in stock at all times in its spacious warehouse in Schneverdin- gen. Premium Australian lambskins are now available in more than 20 colours, and as Na- dine Heitmann notes: “Many of our skins are already certified under the Öko-Tex leather standard.”
