Boden Schätze: Textiles on the Ground and Underfoot
The special exhibit Boden Schätze: Textiles on the Ground and Underfoot, in Hall 2 is based on a project by textile de- sign students at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, sponsored by Austrian hand-woven carpet maker Tisca.
The exhibition concept is to cultivate greater awareness of colours, patterns, materials, textures and the manufac- turing of floor textiles, exploring their possibilities while
pointing out limitations. Manufacturing aspects addressed include dyeing methods, yarn production, appliqué, em- broidery, knitting, tufting, knotting and weaving – as well as sustainability-related processes such as recycling and upcycling. In cooperation with Tisca, the students devel- oped unique handcrafted pieces that make a bold state- ment, revealing the great creative potential bound up with carpetmaking.
