Theko at Domotex Heading up north
On Germany’s North Sea island of Sylt there is an iconic restaurant named Sansibar, originally opened in 1974 as a snack bar by Swabian chef Herbert Seckler on a stretch of beach bearing the same name. Keller, the company’s second-gen- eration managing director, explains what the brand stands for: “These are feel-good carpets that are simply fun; they capture the feel and flair of Sansibar beach, the North Sea ... being on holiday out in nature.”
The licensing partnership between Theko and Sansibar came about in part because of the for- mer’s carpet expertise, in part through a per- sonal connection between the entrepreneurial families and a shared love for the island of Sylt.
The hand-woven wool carpets in the Hörnum collection come in twelve solid colours that have a relation to the village on the southernmost tip of the island with its prominent red-and-white striped lighthouse and extensive beach area, af- fording lovely, long walks. They are usable on both sides, suitable for underfloor heating and come in eight sizes ranging up to 190 x 290 cm. Custom sizes up to 300 cm wide and 1000 cm long are also possible.
The rugs of the Braderup collection are made of a durable wool-viscose blend that really trans- ports that hygge feeling of slowing the pace in a cosy home. The little Frisian village of Braderup
