Nature Engineered
The natural world reinterpreted. Nature Engineered is about utilis- ing mechanical means to refine and optimise organic materials like raffia, hemp, linen and nettle. Natural textiles are processed into sophisticated, intelligent products using innovative new technology. This theme is characterised by clear lines and shapes in soft beige and brown tones.
From Earth
A theme about the natural world – organic materials in harmony with nature. Natural colours emanating warmth and softness. An ecological, earthy aesthetic is transported through textural imper- fections, abrasions and irregularities. Earthy, botanical tones and natural variation characterise the From Earth trend. Untreated and raw surfaces, unbleached textiles and natural dyes highlight how the materials are existing in their original state.
Make and Remake
Used and leftover materials and fabric remnants brought to new life. There is an aesthetics of repair as a deliberate design ele- ment in recycled products. Make and Remake is about bright and cheery colours, making use of varied techniques like overprinting, overdyeing, bricolage, collage and patchwork to come up with creative new products. Layered colour patterns and graphics yield bold and “maximalistic” yet carefully conceived designs.
Continuous
The Continuous trend features closed cycles within which materials are recycled over and over to make new products in a zero-waste process. Materials that would otherwise go to waste are removed and reprocessed into new fibres, composite materi- als and textiles. Synthetic and cellulosic yarns are produced in this fashion, avoiding wastage. The materials retain their original quality and aesthetic appeal thanks to technologically advanced recovery methods. Product design is driven by considerations of functionality, minimalism and long-life.
