 In Poland, almost all retail chains are foreign com- panies – across all segments. One of the few excep- tions, and a highly noteworthy one at that, is Kom- fort, a leading retail floor covering chain that opened in 1992 and now has over 160 stores throughout the country. And now Komfort is looking to expand be- yond the country.
In addition to parquet, laminate, LVT and carpet- ing, the Komfort range of floor coverings includes custom rugs. These are a major business focus, to which roughly a third of the salesfloor space in stores is devoted. This custom rugs section is always well organised by product group and decorated in a lively, imaginative and even experimental manner. The company’s staff are highly knowledgeable so they are able to provide customers with competent advice. Komfort also holds an annual store manager meeting at a hotel to discuss strategy and structur- ing of the product assortment.
Carpets are highly valued as a furnishing item in Poland. The Polish are fairly demanding consumers when it comes to quality, flatweaves and machine- woven products are the most popular carpets here. •
